NIA joins Solid Wall Insulation initiative

Posted by david.luukas

The National Insulation Association (NIA) has joined an initiative to support the mass roll-out of Solid Wall Insulation (SWI) in the residential market to meet UK government climate change targets.

The initiative involves three leading industry bodies, the NIA, Solid Wall Insulation Guarantee Agency (SWIGA) and the British Board of Agrement (BBA). The three bodies will be developing an independent installer assessment and surveillance scheme for SWI covering external wall insulation, internal wall insulation and hybrid systems. This initiative forms part of an SWI industry framework developed by the NIA and SWIGA to bring about a 10-fold increase in the capacity of the SWI industry in a controlled manner and will also support UK government targets under the Green Deal.

The NIA and SWIGA are also developing a skills and training platform which includes; onsite assessment and training in the workplace to qualify existing workers; retraining skilled workers from other trades such as cavity wall installers and apprenticeship schemes for new entrants.

Alumasc is a member of insulation trade associations NIA and INCA and we have obtained independent endorsement for our Swisspan and Swisslab External Wall Insulation Systems, which are Energy Saving Recommended for their contribution to the improved overall thermal performance of existing inefficient, hard-to-treat homes.
