External Wall Insulation Meets Planning for New Nursery Building
Alumasc’s Swistherm External Wall Insulation has provided a high quality external appearance along with energy efficiency benefits to a new nursery facility at Exeter Cathedral School.
The new build project saw Alumasc work with Kensington Taylor Architects in Exeter and Alumasc registered contractor Rateavon from Bristol.
Planning constraints meant that the area in which the nursery is based is of ‘historical interest’ meaning that Alumasc’s Silicone Render finish used on the project had to match the colour of the existing city walls.
Another challenge was that due to the nursery’s position in relation to the Cathedral, no vehicles were permitted within close proximity of the site. The area is pedestrianised which provided a unique challenge for Rateavon in transporting the required materials.
Alumasc’s Swistherm EWI System used on the project comprised of 140mm Grey Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Insulation, faced with the high performance Silkolitt Silicone Render. This resulted in the nursery achieving a u-value of 0.13W/m2k.
The Swistherm direct-fix insulated render system is a BBA Approved, fully warranted system with an effective life in excess of 30 years. Swistherm is fully weather resistant whilst remaining vapour permeable and allows the fabric of the building to act as a heat store, increasing thermal efficiency.
Alumasc’s thin-coat Silicone Renders are used to create a contemporary finish and are available in a wide choice of textures and colours.
